I picked up the Sammy Hagar “Best Of” compilation, Unboxed today. The CD was made in 1994, which is well into the age of the “loudness wars”. The CD has two bonus tracks at the beginning, so those are stripped out. The other tracks are pulled from non-remastered, original CDs. Well, you can see what happens to modern releases.
The latest album represented in the compilation is I Never Said Goodbye, which was recorded in 1987. That album also does not suffer from blowout compression. But in the 90’s, buyer beware.
