I also picked up Rush 2112, the remastered version. I had lamented for a while how hard it was to get the unremastered versions of these albums, so I have never bought a remaster version. But for $1, I figured I would at least compare the differences with what I had to see if it was as bad as I expected. My existing copy is a US pressing, but it is an early pressing at least.
The results are pretty predictable. This is close to being classified as brickwalled, but the peaked portions are not sustained long enough for me to give that designation. Others may feel differently. One thing of very special note is that the remaster gained a significant level of high-end fidelity, as shown by the spectral graph. That’s could mean my original CD was mastered from tapes a couple generations down, or maybe the quality of the mastering equipment has improved over time. Either way, the remaster doesn’t seem to be as bad as most.
