I picked up another copy of The Stranger, since it looked like a non-US pressing, but there were some things that seemed a little different. The case had a “Nice Price” hype sticker on it, which usually means it was a budget or value packaged CD – limited liner notes/lyrics/whatnot. When I listened to the disc, it sounded really good. I had to play it at 14 on my car stereo. My unofficial guidelines are: 8=2000+ pressings, 10=80’s & 90’s, 12=80’s & 70’s. So this was a really quiet mastering.
After comparing, yes, the new disc is a little quieter. I’ll probably keep it over my existing copy, partially for that, but also because my old version is a club copy.
